WHAT I DO

I’ve been working with HTML since the early days of the web, and while the tools have evolved, I still enjoy crafting clean, well-structured markup as the backbone of every website I build.

I don’t chase gimmicks just solid, honest SEO. I make sure your site is fast, accessible, and well structured so it’s easy for search engines (and people) to find and understand.

I set up Google Analytics to help clients understand what’s working, what’s not, and where their visitors are coming from, without overwhelming them with data.

Styling a site is still one of my favourite parts of the process and CSS lets me bring ideas to life, from subtle animations to full responsive layouts that work across all devices.

Whether it’s a small online shop or something more complex, I can help set up and customise WooCommerce so it works smoothly and looks the part.

I’m comfortable digging into cPanel and Plesk when needed: setting up email, databases, managing backups, domain management, SSL, phpMyAdmin, or tweaking PhP settings. It’s not glamorous, but it’s essential stuff.

I genuinely enjoy building websites that look and work beautifully across all screen sizes. Responsive development is one of my favourite parts of the job. There’s something satisfying about making a layout adapt seamlessly, whether it’s being viewed on a phone, tablet, or desktop. I pay close attention to the details, ensuring that every element feels considered and intuitive no matter the device. For me, it’s not just about making things fit, it’s about creating a great experience for every user.

PHP is the engine behind WordPress. I use it every day to build custom functionality and make sites do exactly what’s needed.

From writing up docs in Word to wrangling spreadsheets in Excel, I’m pretty fluent in the usual Office tools and use them daily for planning and communication.

Websites should look great on every screen, big or small. I always design and build with mobile, tablet, and desktop in mind so the experience feels seamless. I love this part of the work!

I don’t shout about databases much, but they’re an essential part of what I do – storing content, managing users, and keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

I loved Dreamweaver back in the dat, but Visual Studio Code is my editor of choice now – it’s lightweight, flexible, and lets me stay focused while coding.

I’ve delivered WordPress training in-person and authored instructional manuals and tutorial videos for a wide range of organisations, colleges, and universities across the UK. One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing that moment of realisation when a client ‘gets it’ and it dawns on them that updating their website isn’t going to be a chore, but something they can actually enjoy and feel confident doing.

From interactive menus to custom features, I use JavaScript to make websites feel faster and more dynamic. I try to keep things lean and purposeful.

Ok so DNS isn’t the most exciting part of web development but I’m happy sorting out website migrations or any behind-the-scenes tweaks that need doing. I’ve moved hundreds of WordPress sites at this point…*stares into distance*…

Keeping WordPress sites secure is a big part of my job and I like to be pro-active with this stuff, making sure everything is kept up-to-date, backed up, and protected from common threats.

jQuery was my gateway into JavaScript, and while it’s not always the go-to now, it’s still handy for certain tasks and legacy projects.

I’ve built over fifty websites with Elementor and Elementor Pro. It’s a great option for clients who want more control over layouts without touching code.

Making websites accessible to everyone is something I care deeply about. I follow WCAG guidelines and test carefully to make sure no one is left out.

I started out as a designer, so I love getting stuck into Figma 🙂 whether it’s mocking up layouts, refining UI details, or collaborating on design ideas.

I can help clients set up and style their Shopify store, and manage their products with ease. It’s a great option for simple e-commerce.

I always try to put myself in the user’s shoes and where possible, I get real people to test things too. It’s amazing what you learn from watching someone use your site for the first time.

I’m a bit of a page-speed nerd. I like squeezing every bit of performance out of a site so it loads quickly, even on a slow connection.

Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere have been part of my toolkit for years. I still reach for them when working on graphics, layouts, video tutorials or anything visual.
